Our Passion...

Big floppy ears, slobbery kisses, and eyes that could look right through me...that is how it started for me.

My name is Courtney Johnson. I got my first Great Dane, Lakotah Sioux's Mika, when I was a sophmore in college. I was an avid horse person who was constantly at the barn with my trusty sidekick Abby that I adopted from Pima County Animal Control in Tucson, AZ. When I first got to Arizona, the stable manager walked out to greet me with this incredible blue Great Dane. He was to put it simply HUGE and the kindest dog I had ever met. A few months after I had arrived, I met my Mika. She was the sweetest, obnoxious puppy a girl could ask for and quickly became inseparable from me and her best friend Abby.

I spent several years learning about Great Danes and enjoying Mika and Abby. We spent a lot of time traveling the United States together from Seattle, WA to the Carolinas, be it car or plane!! I spent alot of time working on obedience and Therapy Dog visitations with Abby and Mika. Whether visiting the children's hospitals to nursing homes and Alzheimer's units, we were there. We even participated in community events such as the Race For A Cure and educational programs for children.

Unfortunately, I lost my sweet girl Mika to osteosarcoma in November of 2004. Mika's absence was a big gaping hole in our lives. At first I did not think I was ready for another Dane so we opted to adopt another dog from the Greensboro Animal Rescue in Greensboro, NC which then introduced our rowdy Isabel to the mix. Although we love and enjoy Abby and Isabel, life just wasn't the same without a Dane, so in May of 2005, one week before we got married, my husband and I picked up our EmmaBleu from the airport. And as the old saying goes, "And that was just the beginning...."
